Impeachment.

Finally.

The President has shown that he believes himself above reproach, repeatedly showing blatant disrespect for our Constitution and our government’s fundamental balance of power. The latest actions to undermine the upcoming election are a threat to our national security and to our core democratic principle of free and fair elections.

I support House Representatives who have mobilized House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi to begin impeachment proceedings, and urge Senators to prepare to respond with an open, transparent and fair trial. I deeply respect that this continues to have bipartisan support.

We must stand with Congress as they endeavor to hold accountable a President and an administration that consistently challenges the very soul of America and its values of liberty and freedom.

I hope that these proceedings are expeditiously resolved so we can address the human rights concerns created by a President and an administration that separates families, leaves children to go hungry, pollutes ecosystems, and harms our nation’s industries and local economies. The people of Nebraska need an effective executive branch that works with, not undermines, its fellow legislative and judicial branches.

For more information on what that process entails, the New York Times has a comprehensive overview, released here.
